Amanda Rishworth, Labor Member for the Federal electorate of Kingston in South Australia, was among five MPs in Japan on a parliamentary delegation when the quake hit the coast of Miyagi prefecture yesterday afternoon.
Ms Rishworth has told Sky News she was stuck on the train for four to five hours about 300 metres away from Tokyo.
She says a number of tremors were felt in Tokyo overnight making people nervous.

Ms Rishworth says people are sleeping with their doors open to ensure there's a clear path if they do need to leave the building and they even have their shoes on, which is unusual in Japan, in case they do need to make a speedy exit from the house.
All Australian MPs are safe and at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo, however it's not known when they will be able to fly home.
