Hostel stabbing victim Tom Jackson remains on life support in the intensive care unit in a far north Queensland hospital.

A Townsville Hospital spokesman says Jackson's condition hasn't changed since he was admitted after a frenzied stabbing attack at a backpacker's hostel late Tuesday night.

The 30-year-old was attacked at a hostel at Home Hills, about 100km south of Townsville, while trying to assist and protect fellow Brit Mia Ayliffe-Chung who was stabbed to death.

Tom suffered multiple wounds to his head and torso.

His father Les, who arrived from the UK on Thursday night, has spent the best part of his time in Australia at the bedside of his "hero" son.

On Saturday morning, Mr Jackson met with detectives in a coffee shop at Townsville Hospital for at least an hour, where he was shown documents before they broke up about 11.30am.

Mr Jackson has yet to speak publicly about his "hero" son although he posted a photo of his family on social media on Thursday with the comment, "Family - the only really important thing".

Frenchman Smail Ayad, who was staying at the hostel, is accused of murdering Ayliffe-Chung and stabbing Tom Jackson as well as killing a dog and injuring a dozen police after his arrest.

Police deemed him too aggressive to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on Friday where his case was adjourned until October 28.
