Sydney Roosters forward Aidan Guerra is confident of remaining at the foundation club beyond 2017 despite not yet opening negotiations.
Guerra is off contract at the end of the NRL season and came into the new year with a point to prove after a rollercoaster 2016.
Despite playing all three games of Queensland's State of Origin series victory last year, he was dropped amid the Roosters' form slump.
A move to lock has paid dividends for the 29-year-old this year while the Roosters have turned over a new leaf, starting with one loss after five rounds to be in third place.
The north Queensland product said his prime concern was rebounding to form and winning back the respect of his teammates, only then will he start thinking about signing a contract extension.

"We haven't really opened negotiations yet," Guerra told AAP.
"We're just concentrating on my footy and I'm pretty confident it will take care of itself."
Guerra credited the Roosters with turning him into a grand final winner, international and state player and said he wanted to remain at Moore Park beyond this year.
The Roosters have re-signed Mitchell Pearce and Dylan Napa but have several top liners coming off contract, including Guerra, Blake Ferguson, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Daniel Tupou and Kane Evans.
He has made 135 appearances since his debut for the eastern suburbs club in 2010 after being signed from Melbourne and when asked if he wanted to stay, he said: "Definitely.
"The Roosters have been a good club to me and I try to repay that every day.
"I grew into a man here with my teammates around me. I love the club and when negotiations do start I'm sure my footy will be at the standard it will speak for itself and take care of itself."
