More than 30 million people worldwide have died from AIDS.

To keep the message of the AIDS epidemic alive, the AIDS Memorial Quilt has been one of the most powerful ambassadors in the fight against the illness.

Weighing more than 54 tonnes, the quilt consists of 48,000 panels with the names of over 94,000 AIDS sufferers from all over the world.

The first time in more than 20 years the International AIDS conference is being held in the United States.
