Aircraft debris found off Mozambique

Two pieces of aircraft debris have been found in Mozambique but it is too early to conclude they are from Flight MH370, officials say.

Debris that appear to come from an aircraft have been found in Mozambique, officials said, while declining to say whether the two pieces were part of the Malaysia Airlines jet that went missing in March 2014.

Flight MH370, which had 239 people on board, had been en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

The pieces were found on Thursday after being washed ashore in Inhambane province, about 500 kilometres north of the capital Maputo, said Joao Abreu from the National Institute of Civil Aviation.

"I cannot confirm whether the debris ... definitely belong to the missing MH370 aircraft," Abreu said, noting that the pieces would be examined in Mozambique before being sent to Malaysia for further investigation.

Two other pieces of debris had already been found in Mozambique.

Debris found on coastlines around the Indian Ocean indicate that the Malaysia Airlines plane may have crashed south-west of Australia.
