Airlines are set to resume flights in and out of Bali after a volcanic ash cloud forced airlines to cancel flights on Monday.

Virgin Australia flights to Denpasar from Brisbane and Sydney were cancelled on Monday, along with Tigerair flights from Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide, over concerns about a volcanic ash cloud from Mt Rinjani.

Tigerair also cancelled flights out of Denpasar to Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.

"The latest advice from our team of meteorologists and the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre is that conditions in the vicinity of Denpasar Airport have improved overnight," a statement on Tigerair's website said.
"Tigerair Australia will resume normal operations this morning and the Melbourne – Bali service will depart at 9:05am as per schedule."

Virgin Australia and Jetstar have also announced in online statements that flights will resume today (Tuesday, August 2).

"An update on flights scheduled to depart Denpasar this evening will be provided around 1pm AEST today when we have more information from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre," Virgin Australia said in a statement on its website.

"Safety is always our number one priority and we continue to monitor the situation closely."

Jetstar said on its website, "We'll continue to assess conditions throughout the day but currently expect all services to operate for the rest of the day".

"We will update this alert if the situation change," the statement said.

Travellers due to fly to the island on Tuesday are being advised to check in at the airport as normal unless they receive notification their flight is affected.

In 2015 ash clouds from Mt Rinjani and Mt Raung disrupted flights to Bali several times during the year.
