Airport decision no surprise: Barnaby

Whether the federal government is prepared to go it alone on Sydney's second airport is a matter for cabinet, Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce says.

The federal government isn't surprised by Sydney Airport's decision to turn its back on the chance to develop and operate the city's second major airport in western Sydney.

But whether the government is prepared to go it alone is a matter for cabinet, Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said.

"To be quite frank I wasn't surprised," he told reporters in Canberra of the decision.
