Alarm over Indigenous sexually-transmitted disease rate

New figures show Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have a much higher rate of sexually transmitted infections than other Australians.

The figures come from a report by the Baker International Diabetes Institute in Alice Springs and show the rates of chlamydia and syphilis are three and five times greater, respectively, among Indigenous Australians.

Gonorrhea rates are 30 times greater than among non-Indigenous Australians, the report says.
