Labor Leader Anthony Albanese says Victorian union boss John Setka's conduct is bringing the entire ALP into disrepute and he should be expelled.

In a letter to the ALP's national secretary Noah Carroll, Mr Albanese urges the national executive to expel Mr Setka at a National Executive meeting on July 5, saying the union leader's continued membership will "continue to cause the party to suffer harm", The Australian reports.

"There are two reasons. One is the cumulative effect of his conduct over the last few years. The other equally if not more important reason is the adverse media coverage of his actions and how that reflects on the ALP while he remains a member," the letter states.
