Opposition frontbencher Anthony Albanese is betting the next federal election will be held on March 19.

Mr Albanese told the Nine Network on Friday the government will likely go to an early election to avoid having to deliver another budget and ahead of a federal redistribution in NSW.

But Assistant Treasurer Kelly O'Dwyer insists the government will run for its full term, with an election still one year away.
