Record-setting Sydney FC captain and former Socceroo striker Alex Brosque will retire at the end of the season.

Brosque, 35, has made more appearances (264) and scored more goals (82) than any player in the club's history.

He's also made more Asian Champions League appearances for the club (16) and is their joint all-time leading goalscorer in that competition with four.

Last Saturday, Brosque scored his sixth Sydney A-League derby goal against Western Sydney Wanderers, yet another club record.

The striker has also been the Sky Blues' most successful captain, leading them to four trophies.

He has enjoyed an 18-year career.

"Alex Brosque is unquestionably Sydney FC's greatest ever player," Sydney FC chairman Scott Barlow said.
