Ann B Davis, who played the affable housekeeper Alice on television show The Brady Bunch, has died at the age of 88.
Davis fell and hit her head in the bathroom of her Texas home, celebrity website TMZ reported.
Her close friend Bishop William Frey has told CNN the actress suffered a subdural haematoma.
Bexar County medical examiner's investigator Sara Horne said Davis died in hospital on Sunday morning.
She says no cause of death is available and an autopsy is planned for Monday.
Davis played Alice Nelson for the entire series of The Brady Bunch from 1969 to 1974, where she had an onscreen romance with Sam the Butcher, played by Allan Melvin.
She went on to reprise her role in a number of spin-off series, including The Brady Bunch Variety Hour, The Brady Brides and The Bradys.
She also made a cameo as a truck driver in the 1995 feature film The Brady Bunch Movie.
Prior to her role as Alice, Davis starred in US comedy The Bob Cummings Show, for which she won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
She also appeared in other programs including The John Forsythe Show and Love American Style.
Davis earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
