An Australian high school student has reportedly worn an Adolf Hitler costume to school for book week after first seeking permission from a teacher.
The boy was selected as one of the 'best dressed' at assembly, while the school's Reading Week coincided with an exchange visit of students from Melbourne Jewish school Bialik College.
St Philip's College principal Roger Herbert has told ABC he regrets the school facilitated the costume choice, and that he has apologised to the students and principal of Bialik College.
He said the teacher who approved the Hitler costume is "absolutely shattered".
Biliak College principal Jeremy Stowe-Lindner told ABC he thinks the Alice Springs private school has responded well to the incident.
"I understand that no malice was intended and I guess the coincidence of Jewish children visiting from Melbourne is a learning opportunity for the community, and that the principal assures me this is number one priority."
The incident comes just weeks after a satire piece, by parody news site Broken News, about a child dressing as Hitler for school: 'Mum defends child's Adolf Hitler book week costume'.
