Former All Blacks winger Zac Guildford has left the NSW Waratahs, cutting short his Super Rugby season.

Guildford has headed back to New Zealand after the Waratahs secured the return of giant Wallabies winger Taqele Naiyaravoro as they attempt to clinch a finals berth over the remaining three regular season rounds.

The 27-year-old arrived at the Waratahs on a short-term deal with a troubled past and, despite an injury setback with a broken toe, performed creditably in his seven matches.

He has signed to play provincial rugby for Tasman in New Zealand's NPC competition.

Fresh from scoring a try after coming off the bench for the Wallabies in the third Test against England, 24-year-old Naiyaravoro looms as a big plus for the Waratahs after rejoining from Glasgow Warriors.

The blockbusting winger was previously a key member of the Waratahs, earning 20 caps across their championship-winning 2014 campaign and in 2015.
