All Blacks pay special tribute to Collins

A group of World Cup-winning All Blacks have made a special trip to Jerry Collins' grave and they brought the Webb Ellis Cup with them.

A group of leading All Blacks from the World Cup-winning side have made a poignant pilgrimage to the grave of former teammate Jerry Collins - and they brought Bill.

The Webb Ellis Cup was taken by Ma'a Nonu, Jerome Kaino, Sonny Bill Williams, Liam Messam and Dan Carter on a special trip to the final resting place of Collins at the Whenua Tapu Cemetery north of Wellington.

The players posed for photos with the Rugby World Cup trophy, which was given the nickname `Bill' by the Wallabies, in pride of place beside his grave on Thursday.

Collins and his Canadian partner Alana Madill were killed in a car crash in southern France in June. Their baby Ayla survived the crash.

Nonu posted on social media: "Happy belated bday to our fallen uso.We love you JCterminator."

Collins, who would have celebrated his 35th birthday on Wednesday, played 48 Tests for the All Blacks from 2001-07, including three as captain. He had been playing French club rugby at the time of his death.

Williams described it as a "special night" to show his love and respect for Collins.

Carter, man-of-the-match in the 34-17 win over Australia in the final at Twickenham said: "Good to share this one with the brother. Love you JC."

The All Blacks have their third and final homecoming parade in Wellington on Friday.
