A Melbourne man who allegedly murdered his mother must give police samples of his saliva and hair.
Socrates Tamvakis, 44, is accused of murdering 74-year-old Violet Tamvakis in Bentleigh between April 25 and 26.
He fronted the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday and was remanded in custody.
During the brief hearing, Tamvakis agreed police could take samples of his saliva or blood, and hair.
It's understood he had previously refused, so prosecutors asked the court to make an order.
Tamvakis was arrested last Wednesday, a day after one of his sisters found their mother in a front room of her Bentleigh home, the victim of a violent assault.
The alarm was raised when Ms Tamvakis failed to pick up her grandchildren from school on Tuesday afternoon.
The court heard Tamvakis had a psychiatric illness and was taking prescription medication.
Police will format CCTV and lodge forensic items for analysis before he returns to court on September 5.
