Australian golfer Robert Allenby's fate following his early morning arrest inside an Illinois casino will be decided by local prosecutors.

Rock Island deputy chief of police Jason Foy said on Monday the police case will be handed over to the state attorney's office to decide if disorderly conduct and criminal trespass charges will be pursued against Allenby.

Allenby is scheduled to appear in the Rock Island County Court on September 15.

"The way it works now is he has been charged by us, bonded out and now it's in the state attorney's or county prosecutors' hands to pursue it from there," deputy chief Foy told AAP.

"We have a person here within the department who handles all court cases and he'll meet with the state attorney's office and that's to be determined by them on how to proceed from here on out."

The Melbourne-born 45-year-old golfer was arrested inside Jumer's Casino about 2.29am on Saturday after Illinois Gaming Board agents called for police assistance.

Police have not released specific details of what Allenby is accused of doing.

"We were called out to assist them with the subject," deputy chief Foy said.

Allenby was staying at the casino while competing in the John Deere Classic PGA tournament, but he missed the cut on Friday, meaning he could not play the final two days of the event.

Allenby told USA Today he had dinner and played blackjack with other golfers and caddies at the casino tables.

Deputy chief Foy said that after Allenby was processed at the local jail, police took him back to the casino.

"I know he went back to the casino with us to pick up his property and then he was on his way," he said.

Allenby made world headlines last year when, after missing the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii, he claimed he was robbed, kidnapped and beaten after drinking at a Honolulu wine bar.

His face was badly bruised and swollen.

"There's nothing to be said or done about," Allenby, when asked by USA Today about the Illinois arrest, said.

"Nothing happened."
