An alligator has dragged a child into the water near Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in Orlando, Florida.

Multiple news outlets report that Orange County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Rose Silva says the two-year-old child was dragged into the Seven Seas Lagoon about 9.30pm on Tuesday (1130 AEST Wednesday).

Deputies are continuing to search the waters. Silva says the child has not been found.

Journalist Christal Hayes of the Sentinal was at the scene and said police and officials are searching the water surrounding the area the toddler was taken, while search helicopters fly overhead.
Reports say that the child was down on the beach at Seven Seas Lagoon when he was dragged into the water.

The resort is one of three hotels on the Disney monorail line, one stop away from Magic Kingdom Park.

It has been a hard week for Orlando residents, after Gunman Omar Mateen killed 49 people in a gay nightclub and left more than 50 injured in what has been described as both a gay hate crime and an act of terrorism.
