Almost 850,000 vote early for NSW election

Hundreds of thousands of NSW residents have already voted in the state election in person or via the internet or telephone.

Almost 850,000 NSW residents have already made their decision in the state election after voting early.

The NSW Electoral Commission on Thursday revealed 670,000 people had cast their vote at pre-poll centres, while 23,000 had voted via post, 144,000 used the internet or telephone and almost 7000 voted in mobile booths at nursing homes and hospitals.

Early voting is expected to peak on Friday, the day before the election, NSW Electoral Commissioner John Schmidt said in a statement.

Postal voting is now closed but residents unable to get to a polling booth on Saturday can register to use internet and telephone voting by 1pm on March 23. iVote will be available until 6pm on election day.
