Comedian Eurydice Dixon texted her partner of four months just after midnight to let him know she was nearly home.
"I’m almost home safe, HBU [how about you]," she wrote to Tony Magnuson, according to The Herald Sun, after performing at Melbourne venue Highlander Bar on Tuesday night.
But the 22-year-old never made it to her nearby apartment, her body found on a sports field about 2.40am Wednesday.
As tributes poured in for the talented comedian, her accused killer - 19-year-old Jaymes Todd - faced court charged with one count each of rape and murder.
Todd's lawyer told Melbourne Magistrate's Court the accused suffers from Autism Spectrum Disorder and is socially regressive.
Todd, who did not know Ms Dixon, didn't apply for bail and was remanded in custody to reappear on October 3.
Todd turned himself into police on Wednesday night, not long after Victoria Police released CCTV images of a man they wanted to speak to over Ms Dixon's death.

"The male surrendered himself to a police station last night, which was a result of the media coverage we got," homicide detective Andrew Stamper told reporters on Thursday.
Police are confident Ms Dixon's death is not linked to a sex assault in the same area in March.
Mr Magnuson told The Herald Sun his partner, Ms Dixon, was a "deep soul who never took herself too seriously". He said they had known each other for two years.

Stand-up comics have rallied in support of Ms Dixon's family, with supporters turning to a crowdfunding platform to raise money for them.
The GoFundMe page, set up by Luka Muller, has raised over $27,000, surpassing its $1,000 goal.
Comedians including Cal Wilson, Meshel Laurie, Anne Edmonds and Celia Pacquola are among those to have made pledges.
Claudia Long tweeted: "Eurydice was a kind and funny person, this is a tragedy and my heart is broken."

Nelly Thomas called for an end to "terrorism on women".
"RIP dear girl & may the rest of us mourn this terrible loss & then STEP THE F*** UP to stop this terrorism on women. What else can one say," she said on Twitter.
Comedian Julia Morris took to Twitter to express her shock.
