ALP promises $30m for Tassie surgeries

Federal Labor has promised $30 million to help the 6000 Tasmanians who are waiting for critical surgery in public hospitals.

A federal Labor government would spend $30 million to halve the elective surgery waiting list in Tasmania.

In a joint statement ahead of Labor's state election launch in Tasmania on Sunday, federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten and his health spokeswoman Catherine King said 6000 Tasmanians are waiting for critical surgery with one-in-10 waiting almost a year.

"Labor's $30 million investment will see almost 3000 extra elective surgery procedures - equivalent to half of the current waiting list," they said.
