South Australian Opposition Leader Peter Malinauskas will begin his Labor listening program this weekend as part of a promise to visit all the state's 47 electorates.

Mr Malinauskas will visit a shopping centre in Adelaide's northeast on Sunday to hear directly from locals about their concerns and priorities.

"This exercise isn't about telling people what's good for them, or what is or isn't possible. I just want to listen," Mr Malinauskas said on Thursday.

"I want to hear from people of all different backgrounds - in safe seats and marginal seats, in the suburbs and the regions - lifelong Labor voters and those who've never voted for us before."

Mr Malinauskas said his listening events over the coming months will take various forms, including street corner meetings, community forums and politics-in-the-pub gatherings.

The programme follows Labor's loss to the Liberals in the March state election after 16 years in government.

"Nobody wants to be in opposition, but opposition does present Labor with an opportunity to reach out to the community, listen to them and formulate our policy priorities heading into the 2022 election," Mr Malinauskas said.
