The Australian Medical Association will launch a campaign against the Turnbull government's plans to freeze the Medicare patient rebate until 2020.

"Patients will pay more for their care, and the viability of many medical practices will be under threat as the freeze stretches out to seven years," AMA president Brian Owler said in a statement on Saturday.

The #nomedicarefreeze campaign will be launched in Sydney on Sunday.
