American horse Tepin wins at Royal Ascot

American mare Tepin has won the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.

American mare Tepin won the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday in her first race in Europe.

Trained by Mark Casse and ridden by Julien Leparoux, the 5-year-old Tepin won by a half-length at odds of 11-2 in front of Queen Elizabeth II.

There were some doubts over Tepin's ability to win on soft ground, and she was running without her usual nasal strip.

Casse said "there were a lot of things stacked against today but in the end her greatness prevailed. A lot of people in the United States will be delighted with this result."

Tepin's owner, Robert Masterson, said "the mare is the best thing in the world."
