Human rights group Amnesty International says Australia has missed opportunities by "repackaging failed policies" on the treatment of asylum seekers and indigenous people.
Amnesty has just released it annual report on the state of the world in which the United Nations and Australia have been found wanting.
The report heavily criticised the UN Security Council, saying it's not fit for its purpose and it's failed to match the courage of the Syrian protesters in their stand against a murderous regime.

The report also criticised the Australian government for violating indigenous rights, limiting funding for basics such as housing and clean water. It says Australia also disregards the rights of asylum seekers by processing them off-shore.
"There has been missed opportunities and repackaging of failed policies from the past particularly in relation to refugees and Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islander people," says the National Director of Amnesty International Australia.
