By upholding most of President Barack Obama's health care reforms, the US Supreme Court has resolved a high stakes constitutional clash that hasn't been seen in decades.
It was a victory that surprised many in Washington.
David Weisbrot from the US Studies Centre in Sydney says despite accusations that the Obama administration overlooked other important issues - including job creation - to achieve the win, the reforms have become his centerpiece.

"There's no doubt it's an incredible achievement," he told SBS. "Various governments have been struggling with this issue for 40 or 50 years in America.
"They have a very chaotic health care system, and he's the first president who's been able to bring a really comprehensive package to bear."
