The UN brokered ceasefire in Syria seems to have all but been broken while about 50 UN observers tour the country.
While the first "multi-party" parliamentary elections in 50 years were held in recent days, the international community labelled them a sham against the backdrop of fresh violence in Hama and Idlib.
Veteran correspondent for Sweden's TV4, Stefan Borg, is currently in Damascus and said he has not seen any political intervention since the UN arrived.
"What is necessary is to try and start a political dialogue and I haven't seen any sign of that yet and that is probably the only thing that can lead to something positive in this country," Mr Borg said.
"Otherwise, many people here are very pessimistic."
