Ancient Afghan treasures on Australian tour

An exhibition of priceless ancient artefacts from the National Museum in Kabul has arrived in Australia.

More than 230 precious objects from four archaeological sites along the ancient Silk Road are to go on display in several Australian cities, starting in Melbourne.

For decades these treasures were thought to have been lost or destroyed during years of conflict in Afghanistan.

But museum staff had risked their lives to hide the objects in vaults and more than 20 years later, in 2003, they were unexpectedly recovered and displayed to the world.

The curator of the exhibition, Fredrik Hiebert, spoke with Zara Zaher about what visitors can expect at the exhibition.
