Andrew Denton recovering after surgery

TV personality and euthanasia advocate Andrew Denton has undergone bypass surgery for heart disease and is recovering well.

Australian TV personality and euthanasia advocate Andrew Denton is recovering well after undergoing bypass surgery for heart disease.

Earlier this month it was revealed that Denton had advanced heart disease and would be undergoing the procedure.

He has already been discharged from hospital following successful surgery.

The 57-year-old, known for his ABC interview show Enough Rope stepped away from his TV career a few years ago to establish euthanasia advocacy organisation Go Gentle Australia.

"He was sent home from hospital a couple of weeks ago, he was discharged and is recovering well," Gina McColl, Go Gentle Australia's media director told AAP.

Denton's father Kit died of heart failure in 1997 after years of health problems.

Watching his father's struggles before he died inspired Denton to establish Go Gentle last year and he remains engaged with the campaign.
