Andrew Scipione pledges to 'find justice' for families of murdered Bowraville children

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione has apologised to the families of three children who were murdered 25 years ago, saying more could have been done at the time.

The deaths of three children, Colleen Walker-Craig, Clinton Speedy-Duroux, and Evelyn Greenup, in the northern NSW town of Bowraville remain unsolved 25 years later.

Mr Scipione pledged to ""to do everything possible to find justice" for the three.

"The NSW Police Force could have done more for your families when these crimes first occurred and how this added to your pain, as a grieving community," Mr Scipione said in Bowraville on Thursday afternoon.

"And for that I am sorry."

Andrew Scipione's visit to Bowraville follows a series of articles written by 'The Australian' earlier in the year about the deaths, which led NSW Police to make an application for a retrial to the NSW Attorney General Gabrielle Upton in May, who referred the matter to the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal for a decision.

A man was previously brought to trial for the killings of 16-year-old Clinton, and 4-year-old Evelyn within a five-month period between late 1990 and early 1991 on Bowraville Mission.

The man was not been convicted and maintains his innocence. No prosecution has taken place for the murder of 16-year-old Colleen.
