An Anglican Dean has hit out at his own church's decision to donate $1 million dollars of church money on the same-sex marriage 'no' campaign.
Anglican Dean of Brisbane, Dr Peter Catt, was gutted by the news the Sydney diocese had been poured the sizeable sum into a Coalition for Marriage advertising campaign, saying there were much better uses for the money.
"The issue here is spending this sort of money when the other needs are so great," he told ABC radio on Thursday morning.
"I would have thought that million dollars could have been spent on something that the church is more agreed on, say looking after the homeless, the plight of the refugee - the list goes on and on."
Dr Peter Catt, who is voting 'yes', said he would have also been against $1 million dollars being spent on the 'yes' campaign.
"All campaigns should be equally funded by the government so people can make informed choices rather than the people with the most money getting their view up," he said.
The Anglican church has not told its members how to vote but rather to vote according to their conscience.
