Anglo American pays tribute to dead miner

An investigation into the death of a miner underground in a central Queensland coal mine is continuing.

A Queensland coal mine remains closed as an investigation continues into the death, in an underground accident, of a miner who has been remembered as a helpful colleague and devoted family man.

Anglo American employee Bradley Hardwick died after a grader he was driving collided with a personnel carrier in Moranbah north mine's access drift on Wednesday.

Ten other employees who were inside the personnel carrier were treated for head, neck and facial injuries on site and four were hospitalised and later released.

Mining inspectors are investigating the cause, and the mine will remain closed until it is safe to resume operations, Anglo American says on Thursday.

Mr Hardwick, 47, was known as a devoted family man who was always willing to help others, Anglo American says.

He had worked for Anglo American in various capacities for 17 years and was well known in the tight-knit Moranbah community.
