Another asylum seeker boat intercepted

Authorities have intercepted a boat carrying 53 suspected asylum seekers and two crew near Christmas Island.

HMAS Glenelg, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, intercepted the boat on Thursday morning.

The group will be transferred to Christmas Island where they will undergo security, identity and health checks. Their reasons for travel will also be established.

It is the third boat intercepted since Tuesday.
