A second successive lay day has been called at the men's and women's World Surf League events in south-west France due to poor surf conditions.

On day one on Tuesday, WSL officials said with only one-to-two foot waves on offer at Hossegor, they would wait for the bigger swell that was forecast.

On Wednesday, organisers said while the surf had increased into the six-to-eight foot(2 - 2.5 metre) range, onshore winds had cut the lineup to pieces, rendering it non-contestable for the day.

"The surf has certainly jumped overnight, but it's really messy and we're off for the day," said WSL Commissioner, Kieren Perrow.

"We are closely monitoring the wind conditions over the next several days and we'll be back in the morning to make another call."
