Another director of dairy co-operative Murray Goulburn has quit the board - the second in just the past two days.

Australia's biggest dairy producer on Wednesday said Keira Grant, who was only appointed to the board on March 14, 2016, has resigned.

Ms Grant was to stand for election by shareholders at the annual general meeting scheduled for October 2016.

Her resignation follows Murray Goulburn's big downgrade of its annual profit forecast in late April, which cost the jobs of Murray Goulburn managing director Gary Helou and chief financial officer Brad Hingle.

The co-operative also cut the price it expects to pay farmers for their milk over the rest of 2016.

On Wednesday, Murray Goulburn chairman Philip Tracy said it was regrettable that co-operative had lost a capable, experienced director before she really had an opportunity to contribute to the group.

"However, we completely understand Ms Grant's decision in the circumstances," Mr Tracy said on Wednesday.

"The board has a lot of work to do to win back the support and confidence of our supplier/shareholders, and in the interim is understandably working in a difficult stakeholder environment.

"This situation could not reasonably have been expected when Ms Grant agreed to take on the role in March."

On Tuesday, Murray Goulburn announced that director and dairy farmer Max Jelbart had resigned because of ill health. He was elected in 2012.

Units in Murray Goulburn's listed entity, the MG Unit Trust, were 6.0 cents, or 5.06 per cent, lower at $1.125.
