A one-time anti-Islamic State fighter has faced court charged with the murder of missing 22-year-old Brisbane man Sam Thompson.

Ashley Mitchell Scott Dyball, 25, appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with one count each of murder and interfering with a corpse.

The Albany Creek man was remanded into custody, a day after co-accused Roberto Vincenzo Boscaino, 23, was also remanded on the same charges.

Dyball appeared calm in the dock as his case was adjourned until May 15.

He is not required to appear at that hearing.

Outside court, his solicitor Alex Jones said the charges were "quite shocking news" for his family.

Meanwhile, the search for Mr Thompson's body continues after he vanished in suspicious circumstances on March 7.

A team of 40 detectives has been working the case, and turned their attention to a Bald Hills home after failing to find anything during a search of a tip at Swanbank in Ipswich on Wednesday.

A car similar to the one spotted on CCTV in the car park of a Bald Hills reserve, where Mr Thompson was last seen, was seized from an Albany Creek home on Wednesday night.

Mr Thompson's distinctive orange 2016 Ford Mustang was also spotted in the car park of Deep Water Bend Reserve that day.

He was the victim of an unsolved robbery in Brisbane last September, in which his car was stolen, and police are investigating whether his disappearance was linked to that crime.
