A man has been arrested at Sydney's Cronulla beach where hundreds of members of opposing groups have gathered on the 10th anniversary of violent riots.

The anti-racism activist was bundled into a police van and whisked away after swearing at officers.

About 100 anti-Islam activists are gathered about 500 metres away around a pig on a spit.

A second anti-racism protester was arrested soon after the first and taken into custody.

Police will not say why the young man wearing a bandanna over his face was searched and taken away.

The roaming pack of anti-racism activists has been moved hundreds of metres further away from the opposing gathering.

There have been no reports of arrests at the anti-Islam gathering.
