A union says the ANZ bank can afford to keep every single Australian job it plans to cut and only wants to go offshore to bump up its share price.
ANZ has confirmed a draft proposal to senior management outlining plans to sack 340 staff at its Mulgrave call centre in Victoria and a further 250 positions in South Melbourne. But the bank says no final decision has been made.
The national secretary of the Finance Sector Union - Leon Carter - says the bank has reported record breaking profits and doesn't need to send jobs overseas.
The union will ask ANZ to reserve its decision and lobby politicians on all sides to consider outlawing offshoring Australian jobs.
