Apple fans in Sydney are camping out in the cold on the eve of the release of the latest iPhone.

For Bishoy Behman, not even the HSC can keep him from getting his hands on the iPhone 7.

The 17-year-old veteran camper arrived first thing on Wednesday morning to avoid missing out on the front-row seat and said despite the cold it was worth it to be that first person to have the iPhone 7.

"I wasn't first last time, but this year it feels mad," he told AAP on Thursday.

"Last night was cold and about 1am while we were sleeping they started road works in the middle of the street, so we got zero sleep."

"We are sleepy and starving but it will be worth it."

While admitting his mother wasn't too happy with his decision to skip school and set up camp, he says he is looking forward to testing the phone's new features including advanced camera systems, longer battery life and a fresh coat of paint.

"For me it is not having a home button, the camera - for better pictures and better Snapchats - and the gloss black cover," he said.

But for his friend Mazen Kourouche, lining up for the new phone means a lot more.

The second-year software engineering student and app developer is looking forward to seeing his app, Medyc, with its new features on the phone.

The medical app helps locate nearby clinics and doctors in any country and reminds patients when they need to take their medication.

"I had a family member that needed a lot of medications and they were finding it really hard to stay on top of it all, so I made an app."

Apple is keeping the crowds happy supplying the more important necessities - charging mobile phones and providing 24-hour free wi-fi.

"We are having fun," Bishoy said.
