Visitor numbers and revenue at Ardent Leisure's theme parks picked up last month but both are still down by more than a third on the same time last year.

The company on Friday said things had improved since March and April, but that it counted 35.8 per cent fewer visitors and 35.4 per cent less revenue than in May 2016.

Ardent, which operates the Dreamworld park at which four people died on a malfunctioning ride in October, reiterated its belief that its theme parks will record a full-year earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation loss of between $2 million and $4 million.

At 1100 AEST, Ardent shares were up 1.5 cents, or 0.7 per cent, at $2.145.

Ardent said it had various initiatives in the lead-up to the next school holidays, including the launch of a June 2018 season pass and after-hours events.

The company in May revealed it is looking at developing "prime real estate" next to Dreamworld, potentially selling land that could have been used to expand the Gold Coast theme park.
