Are Afghan troops ready for a handover?

Australia has begun winding down its operations in Afghanistan, but how ready are Afghan security forces to take over? SBS Chief Political Correspondent Karen Middleton reports.

SBS Chief Political Correspondent Karen Middleton and cameraman Jeff Kehl have been in Afghanistan to look at how ready the Afghan security forces are to take over when coalition forces leave in 2014.

Opinions about their departure have been mixed.

Some are confident that the Afghan National Army and Police will be able to contain any insurgency from the Taliban.

Others, including some Australian soldiers, are worried security in the area will collapse.
