The seven time Tour winner announced the decision via his Twitter page after speculation about his future in the sport.
"And yes, this will be final Tour de France. It's been a great ride. Looking forward to 3 great weeks." Armstrong said on the social media site.
After successfully battling testicular cancer Armstrong launched the Livestrong Foundation which has raised over $325 million towards fighting cancer.
Armstrong is the record holder for number of wins at the cycling event.
