A report has emerged claiming Lance Armstrong has confessed to talk show host Oprah Winfrey that he used performance-enhancing drugs.

News wire service AP source claims a person "familiar with the situation" says the cyclist confessed to Oprah that he used performance-enhancing drugs to win the Tour de France.

The interview is due to be broadcast Thursday on the Oprah Winfrey Network, and live streamed on Oprah.com.

Earlier, the former champion cyclist visited the Livestrong cancer charity he founded and apologised to staff.

"It was a very sincere and heartfelt expression of regret over any stress that they've suffered over the course of the last few years as a result of the media attention," she said.
