Australia's top soldier has delivered a blunt warning to the army, saying it risks becoming an "occupational ghetto" if it doesn't change with the times.
Army chief David Morrison says he's "proud" to have led the way in changing the army's culture but says the organisation still has some way to go in modernising.
He famously gave a blunt online video message last year, warning troops there was no place in the organisation for degrading behaviour towards women.
The video has so far attracted more than 1.4 million views on YouTube.
Lieutenant General Morrison says while the army is becoming more inclusive and representative of modern Australia, his work had not finished yet.
"My motives in leading the way in cultural change, I can assure you, were not purely altruistic," he told a Lowy Institute forum in Sydney on Wednesday.
"Unless the army and the ADF in its entirety stays abreast of the seismic shifts in Australia's demography and the ensuing changes in composition and age of our labour pool, we risk becoming an occupational ghetto."
He said he was "proud" of the overwhelming response to his viral three-minute clip.
Lieutenant General Morrison posted the video in 2013 after an investigation into a series of degrading emails involving up to 10 female victims sent by a group of officers and non-commissioned officers reportedly calling themselves the "Jedi Council".
They were alleged to have produced and distributed offensive material and imagery including filmed sex acts, dating back to 2010.
