Detroit Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy says a left ankle injury suffered by his Australian forward Aron Baynes is not as serious as first diagnosed.

Baynes fell awkwardly and was left writhing in pain on the floor during Sunday's game against the Miami Heat and there were fears he could miss games, but Van Gundy left open the possibility of the Australian playing on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT) against the Indiana Pacers.

"It's better than we thought it would be, so he's not definitely out," Van Gundy told reporters.
