ASIC probe into Rugby Australia stalled

The corporate regulator says there's nothing further it can do to progress an investigation into Rugby Australia's dealings with the Melbourne Rebels.

The investigation into Rugby Australia's decision to axe the Western Force and alleged inappropriate dealings with the Melbourne Rebels has stalled, the corporate regular says.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission's John Price told a parliamentary committee on Friday the regulator had investigated numerous referrals relating to deals done between RA and the Rebels, that ultimately led to the dire financial position of Australian rugby and the axing of the WA team.

"At this stage we don't think there's anything further we can do to progress the matters ... we have written to the parties," he said.
