Assange set to be sentenced for UK bail breach

Julian Assange is to be sentenced for breaching his bail in the UK, WikiLeaks says in a tweet, but his lawyers are unable to confirm at what time, reports say.

A sentencing hearing is to be held for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange a day before the US makes its bid to extradite him.

"Julian Assange will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court at 10.30 tomorrow for 'violating his bail conditions' whilst seeking & obtaining political asylum," WikiLeaks tweeted on Tuesday.

However, the organisation also said the Australian's lawyers have not been able to confirm at what time will be sentenced on Wednesday.

Assange was arrested inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he had been holed up for seven years, on 11 April.

At his first court appearance soon after, his sentencing was set for 22 May.

Assange is due to face the same court on Thursday over the US bid to extradite him as the first step in a process some experts say may take as long as two years.

"On Thursday at 10AM there will be a hearing in Westminster Magistrate Court on the US extradition request," WikiLeaks said in the same tweet.
