Gay men are being warned of the perils of online chat sites, after a man was robbed and assaulted at a Sydney hotel.
Police say the 34-year-old met with another man at a Surry Hills pub last week.
The two, who'd found each other via a chat site, went to one of the hotel's rooms.
While inside a third man entered through a balcony door and allegedly assaulted the 34-year-old, inflicting a deep scalp cut which required hospital treatment.
It's alleged his property was also stolen before the other two men fled.

Soon after, a 29-year-old man was arrested and a number of items were seized.
He was charged with aggravated robbery with wounding and refused bail to reappear in Central Local Court on November 7.
Surry Hills Crime Manager Detective Inspector Craig Middleton says people need to be vigilant when using social networking sites.
"In this case the victim suffered a laceration to his scalp and it could have been a lot worse," he said on Monday.
"When meeting people who you have only spoken to on the phone or over the internet, it is very important to meet them at a public spot or to take a friend along with you."
