Asst coach to suit up for Sydney Kings

The injury-hit Sydney Kings are set to turn to assistant coach Ben Knight to suit up as bench cover for Sunday's NBL clash with NZ Breakers.

Sydney Kings assistant coach Ben Knight is set to suit up for the struggling and injury-hit NBL club on Sunday and could achieve a fairytale milestone.

The Kings have former skipper Knight readying for a bench role in their home clash with the New Zealand Breakers following the season-ending injury to forward star Julian Khazzouh last week.

If he gets on court, it would mark his 400th NBL appearance more than four years after the veteran big man retired from the league with knee problems.

Knight has been training with the team since Khazzouh ruptured a quadriceps tendon in the loss to Illawarra Hawks last Friday and joined import star Josh Childress (broken hand) on the sideline.

The club said on Thursday he would provide cover behind forwards Tom Garlepp, Angus Brandt and Jeromie Hill while bringing a wealth of experience to the playing group.

The Kings have just four wins from 17 games this season and sacked coach Damien Cotter last month, replacing him with Joe Connolly.

Knight won't be completely out of touch as he has continued playing at a lower level with the North Sydney club this season.
