The Labor party has called on the federal government to make public its inquiry into the death of an asylum seeker from Manus Island's detention centre.
Hamid Kehazaei's family switched off his life-support on Friday after he was declared brain-dead when a cut on his foot turned into a deadly infection.
Opposition frontbencher Anthony Albanese says he welcomes immigration minister Scott Morrison's investigation into the death of the 24-year-old from Iran.
"But Mr Morrison has a history of not being transparent on these issues," he told reporters in Sydney on Saturday.
"He must commit to making all of this information available.
"It requires explanation for how, what would appear to be a relatively minor injury, has led to (Mr Kehazaei's) passing."
The 24-year-old was airlifted to a Brisbane hospital last week for emergency treatment.
His infected cut foot had deteriorated to life-threatening septicaemia, which occurs when disease-causing bacteria enters the bloodstream.
Refugee Action Collective's Mark Gillespie said the asylum seeker's death was "needless and senseless".
"It's so tragic to see such a young life taken this way and it is an indictment on the way our government is treating asylum seekers," he said. A vigil will be held for Mr Kehazaei in Brisbane's CBD on Sunday night.
It follows one held at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane on Thursday.
Opposition immigration spokesman Richard Marles said Mr Kehazaei's family deserved answers.
"The family and friends of Mr Kehazaei deserve to know he was afforded proper health care at every step," Mr Marles said on Saturday.
Mr Morrison has rejected any suggestions the care provided was inadequate.
"When someone becomes ill, they receive outstanding care from the people who work as part of our mainland detention network," he told reporters on Friday. "Our focus in care has been on this young man from the moment he presented to medical officers at Manus Island."
Mr Morrison has asked the immigration department's chief medical officer to review Mr Kehazaei's treatment and has notified the Queensland coroner.
